EUCEN
EUCEN was founded in 1991 and is the largest European
multidisciplinary network in University Continuing Education. It is registered
in Belgium as an international non-governmental, non-profit making organisation
and has 191 members from 38 countries.
The main aims of EUCEN are to:
– Promote high quality University Continuing Education
throughout Europe.
– Influence the development of university continuing education
policy and policy-making at university, regional, national and European
level.
– Encourage best practice in university continuing education actions.
– Facilitate the exchange of people, ideas and innovation among
its members.
The University of Aveiro is a public institution which
has as its mission the creation and expansion of access to knowledge,
for the benefit of people and society, through research, teaching and
co-operation. Created in 1973, it rapidly turned into one of the most
dynamic higher education institutions in Portugal. It is currently member
of the ECIU – European Consortium of Innovative Universities. The
symposium will take place during the University 30th anniversary year.
The University has around 11,000 students enrolled in
undergraduate programmes. There is a wide choice of areas available: engineering,
sciences, economy, management, health, humanities, teacher training, design,
music. More than 1300 students are doing graduate studies at different
levels and in different domains. Strong links with local and regional
Communities have formed the roots for strong national and international
co-operation and recognition. They also ensure a basis for the multiplicity
of lifelong learning programmes being offered.
Excellent conditions of study and work are provided in
particular by the modernity and architecture of the Campus. Furthermore
the importance given to practical training and project work offer students
an optimum basis to develop their professional career plan.
