Selection of works for the Nova Música Interpretation Workshop

 

RULES

 

1. This contest has the purpose of providing young composers the oportunity to have their works for chamber ensemble performed.

 

2. It is destinated to Portuguese composition students and young composers.

 

3. The candidates can present a maximum of 2 unperformed works.

 

4. The number of the instrumentalists should be between 6 and 21, and the instruments can be selected from the following list:

 

·        Flute / Alto Flute / Piccolo (max. 2 performers)

·        Oboe

·        Clarinet / Bass Clarinet (max. 2 performers)

·        Alto Saxofone

·        Bassoon

·        Horn

·        Trumpet

·        Trombone

·        Tuba

·        Percussion (max. 2 performers) - List of instruments in Portuguese only

·        Piano

·        Guitar

·        Violin (max. 2 performers)

·        Viola

·        Violoncello

·        Double Bass

·        Voice

·        Magnetic Tape

 

5. A maximum of 4 works will be selected and interpretated by the Workshop Chamber Ensemble, formed  by students.

 

6. The Juri will be composed by the conductor of the workshop and by portuguese composition teachers from high education music schools.

 

7. To one of the selected works the Juri will give a distinction award with the value of 50.000$00 PTE.

 

8. Each composer should send five copies of its score by mail, identified with a pseudonym, to the following adress:

Jornadas Nova Música, Fundação João Jacinto de Magalhães, Edifício I, Campus Universitário de Santiago, 3810-193 AVEIRO.

 

9. The composer's name, adress and telephone numbers should be in a separated envelope, with the pseudonym's name visible. In the envelope should also be a list regarding the piece's instrumentation, duration and any technical requirements necessary for its performance. The score should not contain any elements about the composer's identification, or it will be expelled from the competition.

 

10. All composers whose works are selected should supply the parts before the deadline.

 

11. There will be no appeal from the Juri's decision.

 

12. All situations not stated by this Regulation will be decided by the Juri.

 

 

Deadlines

Delivery of works: until 14th September

Juri's decision: 28th September

Delivery of instrumental parts: until 12th October

5as Jornadas Nova Música: 13th to 22nd December
